Plain terms for a free service

The service

Doorbell lets you create short links, QR codes and lightweight pages that point at destinations you choose, and reports how they are used. It is provided free of charge in its first version, as it is, with no guarantee of uptime, though redirects are built to keep working even when the dashboard does not.

Your account

You need to be at least 16 and able to enter into this agreement. You are responsible for what is shared through your workspace and for keeping your sign-in email secure. One person, one account; workspaces may gain members later.

Acceptable use

Do not use Doorbell to point at, host or promote any of the following:

• phishing, credential harvesting or impersonation of any organisation;
• malware, unwanted software or content that exploits a device;
• spam, deceptive redirects or content that misleads visitors about where they are going;
• material that is illegal where you are or where your visitors are, including content that sexualises minors;
• anything that infringes someone else's rights.

Do not try to defeat the rate limits, scrape other people's Links, or probe the service for weaknesses without permission. The API is the one the dashboard itself calls and it is authenticated by your own signed-in session; there are no API tokens yet, and the same rate limits apply to it as to everything else.

Enforcement

Links may be checked against reputation services. A Link that looks suspicious shows visitors a warning page before continuing; a Link found to be abusive is blocked and its address retired. Accounts used for abuse may be suspended without notice. Anyone can report a Link from its warning page, or from the page shown when it has expired, been paused or been blocked, and reports are reviewed by a person.

Your content

You keep every right to what you create. You give Doorbell only the permission needed to store it, serve it to visitors and show it back to you. Images you upload for pages and QR codes are served from a public address, so treat them as published the moment you add them. Public pages carry a “Made with Doorbell” line by default; you may turn it off per Link.

Shared links keep working

Renamed addresses keep resolving to the same Link. A deleted address is retired for 90 days before it can be claimed again, so nothing already printed changes hands overnight. If Doorbell ever introduces pricing, Links you have already shared will not be broken by it.

Liability

Doorbell is a free service provided without warranty. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for loss arising from its use, from a destination you chose, or from an outage. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes

These terms may change; material changes will be announced on the changelog before they apply. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
